WAAM On the Road
Back in September there was a whole lot of concern about our DC landing. Not the march actually getting there (National Guard presence be damned). Not the amount of water required (which we should have been worried about). Not even about damaging the turf on the National Mall (well, maybe Johnny was worried, but that’s another story). The landing had to be impactful. Would Congress still be there? (Yes, but barely.) Would the press finally show up? (Check out the AP story .)

Reclaiming Our Narratives
I don’t think it’s an overstatement to say that WAAM can be a life-changing experience. Our original marchers took a chance on this grassroots (incredibly grassroots) team, unsure of what to expect, and through sweat, blisters and tears we became a resilient community. All of us decided to march for different reasons. I marched for my kids whose identities as children of color with disabilities make them targets of the government’s abuse. Burnout, 2026 Version
Thoughts from the intersection of wellness and activism from MJ, WAAM co-founder: It’s no secret that many of us are feeling overwhelmed and exhausted by the daily crises that plague our country, desperate for one day of news that doesn’t make us question how we ended up in this timeline and how the hell we can get out of it. Activists (the WAAM team included) are particularly susceptible to feelings of burnout right now. Protests and rapid responses are happening every day t

Why March Now?
Some thoughts from WAAM's Director, Maggie: Right now we’re in a (non-violent, at least on our side) war. Our neighbors are being rounded up and thrown into concentration camps. Our friends are literally being shot in the streets. It’s the coldest winter many of us have felt in 60 years, and that’s not only on account of the weather. Many of us are feeling down-trodden. We’re running out of resources and we’re just exhausted. This exhaustion is more dangerous than tear gas or

Route Planning 101
Wonder how WAAM's routes are planned? Here's Jimmy, from Texas, with the details. Mark (MA), Jim (NJ), Teddy (PA) and Jimmy (TX) reviewing the route from Silver Spring to DC. Planning a long-distance walk across counties, cities or states requires more than being physically and mentally fit. Here's a basic list of considerations when planning your route: Choosing a Route: Identify your start and end point while considering the local history and community outreach goals alon

A Reality That Shakes Us All
This week, we watched in horror as 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good—a mother, a poet, a neighbor—was fatally shot by an ICE agent in Minneapolis during a federal immigration enforcement operation. The details are grim, and they’ve sparked a wave of mourning, outrage, and protest across the country. This tragedy is not isolated but part of a broader pattern of force used against vulnerable people by government agencies—violence that rightly shocks the conscience. The Temptation

WAAM there it is, 2026 Edition
Happy 2026 WAAM Family — near and far, marchers, supporters, friends, neighbors and allies. An organizer, mom and teacher, I learned a lot from WAAM. As we move into the New Year and continue planning for the next march (April 11, 2026!), I’d like to share a few lessons with you: Dark money is bad (Teddy will remind you in case you forget). Do not be ashamed of the shuttle. Sometimes the cure for leg cramps is Diet Coke and McDonalds French fries. Bathroom available? Use it!

More Nativity Scenes, Please
Leading up to the first march, we used this newsletter to update you all about our march-planning progress. We needed you to believe what we believed – that the seemingly impossible was possible. Now we’re trying a pivot; bringing you the voices, stories and passion of our marchers and volunteers. First up we have Debbie, a teacher, deep-thinker and mother from Kentucky: The other day my brother sent me a picture of a nativity scene. I bet you’ve seen one like it by now, to

WAAMsgiving
I don’t know what to do with Thanksgiving. In a nation of warring ideologies, we’ve been left with two choices for the holiday, both unappetizing. Half our country leans into the stories they learned in elementary lessons and Sunday school about courageous pilgrims sent by God to carve civilizations out of wilderness. The other half will recite realizations of Indigenous American suffering and our duty to recognize the failings of the past. I suspect that many of you feel the

What We’ve Been Thinking About This Week
Our work hasn’t paused, and neither has the reflection. Here’s what’s been on our minds lately: 1. When Government Fails, We Fill the Gap In Pennsylvania, SNAP benefits will not be distributed in November if the government shutdown continues. That means millions could go without food because of political gridlock. 📖 Read the article This is what happens when systems built to serve the people collapse. And it raises big questions for us: How can we step up at the community

Join Us in the Streets — Saturday, October 18
The No Kings protest returns to Philadelphia tomorrow—and our March Director, Maggie, will be speaking . We use big rallies like this to spread our message , grow our base , and meet new potential marchers . These moments matter—not just to push back against authoritarianism, but to find each other and build something stronger. Why No Kings Matters to Us Nonviolent, public demonstrations are one of the most powerful tools we have. They allow us to: Keep resistance visible Pu
