What We’ve Been Thinking About This Week

Our work hasn’t paused, and neither has the reflection. Here’s what’s been on our minds lately:

1. When Government Fails, We Fill the Gap

In Pennsylvania, SNAP benefits will not be distributed in November if the government shutdown continues. That means millions could go without food because of political gridlock.

This is what happens when systems built to serve the people collapse. And it raises big questions for us:

  • How can we step up at the community level?

  • What can we do at the government level to demand action?

  • How do we stay ready to meet people’s needs—especially when official channels fail?

One thing is clear: our communities shouldn’t have to choose between groceries and survival.

2. Art Is a Tool. Let’s Use It.

We’ve been exploring the Art of Activism Workbook—a resource that helps movements like ours harness creativity as a force for change.

From chalk messages to massive public installations, we know art can cut through the noise, shift the narrative, and draw people in. As we dream up the next march, we’re asking:

  • How can we use art more intentionally?

  • What creative actions could disrupt silence or apathy?

  • How do we invite new people in through beauty, symbolism, and storytelling?

Got ideas? Send them our way.

3. Resistance Is Growing—Slow and Steady

The crowds at No Kings Day were bigger this time. Footage from NYC shows everyday people physically intervening to stop ICE kidnappers.

And mutual aid groups across the country are quietly gaining strength.

At last weekend’s No Kings rally in Philadelphia, our March Director Maggie Bohara spoke about something we’ve heard a lot since the march ended—how “lucky” we were to find so many people along the route who opened their homes, cooked meals, offered rides, and stood beside us.

But as Maggie said in her speech: it wasn’t luck. It was community. Care. Intention. Organizing. Trust.  The truth is, people want to help. They just need a way in.

We are seeing something profound: Our communities are getting stronger. That strength is making us braver. That bravery is making us more powerful. This is how change builds—not all at once, but moment by moment, together.

We’ll be back soon with updates on the spring march and what’s next. In the meantime, stay connected. Stay bold. Stay in motion.

In solidarity,

The We Are America March Comms Team
