A Reality That Shakes Us All

This week, we watched in horror as 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good—a mother, a poet, a neighbor—was fatally shot by an ICE agent in Minneapolis during a federal immigration enforcement operation. The details are grim, and they’ve sparked a wave of mourning, outrage, and protest across the country. This tragedy is not isolated but part of a broader pattern of force used against vulnerable people by government agencies—violence that rightly shocks the conscience.

The Temptation to Retreat
It’s natural to feel fear, grief, and even the urge to step back from political engagement right now. When violence happens in plain sight, the instinct to protect ourselves and our loved ones is understandable.
But withdrawal doesn’t make us safer. History and community teach us otherwise.
We Stand With Community—Not Violence
We’re heartened by the many people who have taken to the streets, stood in vigils, and refused to let this violence be normalized. Peaceful demonstrations in multiple cities reflect a shared refusal to accept brutality as routine.
We know this clearly:
→ Community is the only antidote to fascism.
→ Shared resistance is our strongest defense against unchecked state power.
→ Love for one another is what will keep us grounded and connected.
Gratitude and Growing Hope
We are deeply grateful for the We Are America March community—and the countless others who have shown up, stood up, and continued to grow stronger in times of crisis.
We see courage rising slowly but surely:
Larger crowds at No Kings Day rallies
Neighbors supporting one another in local actions
People finding the strength to speak up even when the cost feels high
Each act of resistance, each compassionate gesture, each public witness against violence strengthens us all.
Moving Forward Together
This is not a time to retreat. This is a time to heal, organize, and build community that outlasts fear.
We will continue to reflect, to act, and to grow—together.
In solidarity,
The We Are America March Comms Team
